Lisa Helton Joins Nashville School of Law Faculty

Sherrard Roe Voigt & Harbison is pleased to announce that member Lisa Helton is now serving as a professor at the Nashville School of Law, teaching the Rigorous Writing Exercise. The course requires students to produce a significant written project demonstrating sophistication and detailed analysis or examination of a specific legal doctrine. She began her teaching role on January 1, 2023.

An eleven-month program spanning students’ third and fourth years of study, the course is designed to meet Tennessee Supreme Court Rules regarding a significant writing project and provide the opportunity to practice professionalism in the practice of law. Each student is paired with a mentor who assists them throughout the process. Upon successfully completing their writing projects, the school will recognize students who produce superior work with the Robert Ballow Excellence in Writing Award.

Helton’s practice includes estate and trust litigation, appellate, general and commercial litigation, landlord/tenant law, representation of homeowners’ associations, homeowners’ association disputes, and IRS tax litigation and controversy. She is a Nashville Bar Foundation Fellow and frequently writes and speaks on various legal issues. Helton was recognized by Best Lawyers as the 2023 “Lawyer of the Year” in Nashville for both Trust and Estate Litigation and Tax Litigation and Controversy.
