The article covers the 2018 launch of the Appalachian Regional Prescription Opioid strike force by the Justice Department to combat opioid overdoses throughout Appalachia and which charged excessive prescribers as drug dealers. “While the undertaking has gone on to land more than 85 convictions, it has also had multiple jury acquittals and investigative shortcomings that former DOJ lawyers and defense attorneys say arose from inexperienced federal prosecutors lacking sufficient supervision”.
